BOJONEGORO – ExxonMobil Cepu Limited (EMCL) is preparing to introduce a new face to its 2026 Community Engagement and Development Program (PPM). Beyond simply empowerment, EMCL is now inviting partners to work together to implement more inclusive principles through the workshop "Building Commitment to Gender Action Learning for Sustainability (GALS) Participation."

Held over two days (November 17-18, 2025) at the Ademos Indonesia Hall, the workshop provided a discussion space for 25 participants from 11 partner institutions, including Ademos, IDFoS, the Sri Sasanti Foundation, and Fatayat NU. The main focus was on aligning hearts and visions to transform the empowerment approach to a more equal and just one.

EMCL's Community Development Supervisor, Wahyu Sadewa, shared his views on the new direction of the company's policies, which are more welcoming and open.

"The implementation of the GESI (Gender Equality and Social Inclusion) Principles has breathed new life into our future focus. Starting next year, we hope that all empowerment programs supported by ExxonMobil can be designed wholeheartedly using this perspective," said Wahyu Sadewa.

Learning from Evaluation, Re-Knitting Equality This transformation was born from a long process of reflection. Evaluations of the PPM program since 2012 have shown that although the economic and social impacts have been felt, there are still gaps in the roles of the unequal partners that need to be bridged. Past programs often operated in silos—infrastructure projects were predominantly led by men, while craft training seemed to be the sole domain of women.

The GALS method aims to gradually break down these barriers. Through this participatory approach, men and women are invited to sit together, plan their lives and livelihoods equally, and improve relationships within families and communities, creating more harmony.

New Hope for Women's Roles As a demonstration of their commitment, the partners have developed action plans in the agriculture, health, and creative economy sectors, with a spirit of togetherness.

As we approach 2026, EMCL is renewing its commitment to providing the widest possible space for women. Through this program, EMCL encourages and places high hopes on its partners to create local champions with at least 40 percent female involvement.

This mutually agreed-upon commitment is not simply a signature on paper, but rather the first step towards a new era of empowerment in Bojonegoro—a joint effort to create a more just, mutually supportive, and sustainable society.
