Ademos Partner of the SIAP SIAGA Program Partnership of the Australian and Indonesian Governments in Disaster Risk Management held a Focus Discussion Group (FGD) on mainstreaming GEDSI in Disaster Management together with the Gender Equality and Social Inclusion (GEDSI) Group, which aims to strengthen the mainstreaming of Gender Equality and Social Inclusion in disaster management, held at the Kayen Village Office meeting hall, Tuesday (14/5/24).

The FGD activity was attended by the GEDSI Group and a number of related parties directly involved in GEDSI Mainstreaming in disaster management.

This FGD emphasized the importance of incorporating GEDSI perspectives into all aspects of disaster management and highlighted that mainstreaming GEDSI will ensure that disaster management actions do not only involve technical and logistical aspects, but also pay attention to the needs, involvement, and full protection of all vulnerable communities including women, children, people with disabilities, and other marginalized groups.

Ademos Chairperson A Shodiqurrosyad expressed his hope that this FGD would produce concrete recommendations and steps that could be implemented within an inclusive and equitable disaster management framework, and invited active participation from all participants to share their experiences, knowledge, and thoughts in achieving the goals.

"The hope is that no one will be left behind in the village development process, especially since vulnerable and marginalized groups are not only objects but also subjects in disaster risk management," he said.

Shodiqurrosyad added that we also want to capture data and information related to GEDSI in the village as an effort to mainstream GEDSI as one of the components of the inclusive DESTANA which will be built as a pilot project.

"As a pilot project, DESTANA Inclusion was carried out in Kayen and Sukoharjo villages," he explained.

"We will strengthen the inclusiveness of Disaster Resilient Villages to encourage and assist villages in developing inclusive DESTANA (Disaster Resilience Village Development Plan). This inclusiveness combines components related to disaster risk reduction, climate change adaptation, mainstreaming GEDSI (Geographical Development Planning), economic strengthening, and strengthening regulations on the use of Village Funds for disaster management," he concluded.
